History
 |
In
1925, a group of community leaders in Goldsboro
gathered to find a more efficient way of supporting
the many philanthropic organizations that needed the
community's support. The result was the establishment
of the Goldsboro Community Chest that would enable
people to make one donation for numerous charity
organizations. By the end of that year, the first
Community Chest drive had surpassed its first goal of
raising $25,000 that funded 10 local human service
agencies.
80 years later, United Way of Wayne County is raising
over $1 million dollars, and is operating under the
same principles of providing a means for the Wayne
County community to make one donation and have a
significant impact on improving the lives of the
people in Wayne County.
