SHARING
         THE

The United Way of Wayne County has a long and successful history in providing support to numerous health and human service agencies in our community. We have built an impressive track record of bringing people together to meet the most pressing challenges our community has faced. Through the traditional annual campaign, the promotion of volunteerism and collaborative efforts, our United Way has provided an efficient and effective way to support the less fortunate in our community.

The United Way of Wayne County has established an endowment fund to support the mission of the organization into the future. The United Way Legacy Fund is a special fund, separate from our annual campaign, which will provide additional support for creating solutions for today and tomorrow. By integrating a dynamic endowment program into its traditional fundraising strategy, United Way of Wayne County is positioning itself to confront the problems of today and the times yet to come.

Where does
the money go?

A gift to the United Way Legacy Fund can respond to a range of future community needs or can reflect a donor's special interest.  Through unrestricted gifts, United Way will be able to support programs to meet future health and social service needs, needs we may not be able to envision today.  All gifts to the endowment will be invested, and only a portion of the income will be spent, ensuring that the gift will grow in perpetuity.  The income will be invested in our community, assuring that it will always help where it is needed most.

The United Way will work closely with you and your advisors to ensure that your gift has the maximum impact in the community and fulfills your desire to leave a legacy in our community.

What kind of Legacy
will you leave?

You can leave a legacy of caring for those in our community who need a helping hand, now and in the future.  You and your financial advisor can select a gift that balances your needs, your interests in United Way, and is best suited to your personal circumstances.  Each gift planning option can work to provide a substantial gift to United Way and provide tax and income advantages to you and/or your heirs.  The gift you give to United Way will build hope in the lives of those in need.

How do I
become a member?

There are many ways to become a member of the Legacy Society and show you care. Among them are:

e Outright Gifts

You may wish to make an outright gift to the Legacy Fund. Gifts of appreciated securities and real estates are two options that may provide ideal tax savings for you and sizeable gifts to United Way.

e Bequests through Will

Naming United Way in your will is one of the easiest ways to make a lasting expression of your charitable concern. Bequests may be in the form of a stated dollar amount, property, a percentage or the residual of an estate.

e Charitable Remainder Trusts

Place assets in a trust and the earnings are paid as income to you and your beneficiaries. Upon the death of the last beneficiary, the principal goes to United Way.

e Charitable Lead Trusts

Place assets in a trust for a specified period of time. Earnings go to United Way during the life of the trust. The principal goes to your beneficiaries when the trust terminates.

e Life Insurance

Life insurance is another simple way to make a lasting gift to United Way and realize significant tax savings. Examples include: Naming United Way as the beneficiary of an existing policy, or donating a paid-up policy that you already own and naming United Way as the owner and beneficiary.

e Retirement Plans

You may choose to name United Way as the beneficiary of a portion of your retirement plans.
